Yurt Capacity Guide: Choose the Right Size

At Yurt Specialists, we often receive inquiries about how many people each yurt size can comfortably accommodate. Selecting the appropriate diameter is crucial for ensuring comfort and efficient layout, whether you’re planning guest stays or setting up a small glampsite.

Below, we illustrate how standard single beds (1.0 × 1.9 m) and double beds (1.4 × 1.9 m) can be arranged in our most popular yurt sizes. For smaller yurts, fold-up or futon beds can help maximize floor space during the day.

How to Plan Your Layout

  • Start with the number of sleepers you need most nights (not the rare maximum).
  • Decide if you prefer singles, doubles, or a mix.
  • Mark the door swing and any window/roof light you want to keep clear.
  • Allow circulation space around the stove/heater and between beds.

Quick Tips

  • Couples & families: A double plus one or two singles works well in mid-sized yurts.
  • Friends’ groups: Singles or futons offer the most flexible sleeping arrangements.
  • Small footprints: Use futons/fold-ups so the living area reappears in the morning.

Yoga Yurt Capacity Plan

When used as a yoga or wellbeing studio, yurts are arranged to maximise open floor space rather than sleeping capacity.
4.2 m yoga yurt typically accommodates 4–6 mats, while a 5 m yurt suits small classes of around 6–8 people. Our most popular 6 m yurts comfortably host 10–13 participants. To create a calm and functional layout, we recommend keeping the central area clear beneath the crown wheel, allowing circulation space between mats, and positioning stoves or heaters toward the perimeter where needed.
