Case Study
From Garden Space to Destination Venue
One successful UK restaurant installed a 6 m insulated yurt in their garden to create a cosy, romantic dining retreat. The results speak for themselves:
Increased winter bookings
Private dining reservations
Higher customer dwell time
Stronger social media visibility
Enhanced brand reputation
Customers don’t just book a table — they book the yurt. That shift turns a restaurant into a destination.
Commercial Yurt vs Winter Dining Pods
Many venues compare yurts with winter pods or temporary marquees. Here’s why a traditional yurt comes out on top:
Feature
Yurt
Pod / Marquee
Insulation
Multi-layer felt — four-season
Minimal or none
Internal Space
~28 m² usable floor area
Typically smaller
Atmosphere
Authentic, premium, photogenic
Functional / utilitarian
Durability
10–15+ years with maintenance
2–5 years typical
Guest Perception
Destination experience
Temporary shelter
A yurt feels permanent, welcoming, and intentional — not temporary.
Do commercial yurts require planning permission in the UK?
It depends on your location and intended use. Under the Town and Country Planning Act, a temporary structure in place for fewer than 28 days in a calendar year generally does not need planning permission. For permanent or semi-permanent installations, we recommend checking with your local planning authority before ordering. We’re happy to help you prepare the information they’ll need.
Are yurts suitable for winter restaurant use?
Yes — our commercial yurts include full multi-layer felt insulation and are compatible with wood-burning stoves, electric heaters, and underfloor heating systems. Many of our hospitality customers operate their yurts throughout the winter with no issues.
How long does a commercial yurt last?
With proper installation on a raised deck base, regular reproofing of the canvas, and seasonal maintenance, you can expect 10–15 years or more of reliable use. The hardwood frame is particularly durable and will often outlast the canvas. We offer a yurt maintenance guide and a professional cleaning and reproofing service to help protect your investment.
What base or platform do I need?
We recommend a circular raised timber deck. This keeps the yurt off the ground, improves airflow, and extends the life of the canvas. Visit our yurt decking and base guide for detailed advice, or get in touch and we’ll help you plan.
