3. How and why we use your information

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (“DUAA”), we must have a lawful basis for processing your personal data. The purposes and corresponding lawful bases are set out below.

Contractual necessity (Article 6(1)(b))

  • Processing and fulfilling your order, including payment via Stripe and arranging delivery
  • Communicating with you about your order or enquiry
  • Providing after-sales support

Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f))

  • Analysing website usage to improve our products and services
  • Administering and protecting our website (including troubleshooting and security)
  • Running Google Ads and Facebook Ads campaigns to reach potential customers

Our legitimate interest in these cases is operating and growing our business. We have considered the impact on your rights and do not believe this processing overrides your interests.

Consent (Article 6(1)(a))

  • Sending you email marketing messages and newsletters
  • Setting non-essential cookies on your device

Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time (see Sections 5 and 7).

4. Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal data to anyone. We share data only with the following categories of third parties, to the extent necessary for the purposes described above:

  • Stripe — our payment processor, which handles your card details securely on our behalf
  • WooCommerce / WordPress — our e-commerce and website platform
  • Google — for Google Ads and Google Analytics (anonymised/pseudonymised data)
  • Meta (Facebook) — for Facebook Ads tracking (via the Meta Pixel)
  • Email marketing service — currently WordPress-based, used to send newsletters and marketing emails
  • Delivery and courier services — to fulfil your order

Each of these providers processes data in accordance with their own privacy policies. Where any provider transfers data outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in line with UK GDPR requirements.

5. Your rights

Under the UK GDPR (as amended by the DUAA), you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Right of access — to request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — to have inaccurate data corrected
  • Right to erasure — to ask us to delete your data in certain circumstances
  • Right to restrict processing — to limit how we use your data
  • Right to data portability — to receive your data in a structured, commonly used format
  • Right to object — including to direct marketing (we will stop immediately)
  • Rights relating to automated decision-making — we do not currently make any solely automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you
  • Right to complain to us — under the DUAA, you have the right to make a data protection complaint directly to us (see Section 9 below)
  • Right to complain to the ICO — if you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk

To exercise any of these rights, please email us at info@yurtspecialists.com. We will respond within one calendar month. There is no fee for making a request, unless the request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

6. How long we keep your data

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected:

  • Order and transaction records: 6 years from the date of the transaction (to comply with HMRC and accounting requirements)
  • Email marketing data: until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent
  • Website analytics data: anonymised and aggregated data is retained; identifiable data (e.g. IP addresses) is deleted in line with our analytics provider’s retention settings
  • Enquiry correspondence: up to 2 years after the enquiry is resolved, unless a longer period is needed for legal purposes

When data is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymise it.
