Behind the Scenes: A Complete Supply & Fit Yurt Restoration at Studio Richter Mahr
Yurts are incredibly durable structures, but like any outdoor building facing the British elements, a little expert maintenance goes a long way. We recently had the pleasure of visiting the beautiful woodland grounds of Studio Richter Mahr to provide a full restoration and wall repair for one of their yurts.
The Challenge: Uninvited Guests
As you can see from the “before” photo, time and the damp climate had taken a toll on the exterior. Because this was an older, traditional Mongolian import, it suffered from a very common design flaw: loose, untreated wool felt insulation layers. Without proper protection, this loose felt becomes an absolute magnet for mice and rats looking for a warm home. Unfortunately, this particular yurt had become infested, and the pests had severely compromised the insulation and wall sections.

This creates a completely sealed, enclosed barrier that makes it virtually impossible for mice or rats to get inside the insulation. - Premium Materials Supplied: We supplied a fresh, high-durability, weather-resistant deep green poly-canvas cover, precision-tailored around the existing chimney flue and the yurt’s stunning, hand-painted red door.
- Expert Fitting: We handled the entire teardown, treated the area, and precision-fit the new sealed wall sections, restoring the yurt’s structural integrity and thermal efficiency.
